Using a unique experiential approach to learning, Equine Assisted Learning promotes the development of life skills for educational and personal life goals through the use of equine assisted activities. As equines mainly use non-verbal communication, working with them provides an opportunity for participants to learn and understand how their non-verbal communication may be impacting and influencing the people around them and their relationships with others. It is our goal that through these sessions and the work with the equine, participants will have a safe place to experience healing, develop a greater understanding of self-awareness and their worth, and cultivate critical life skills.
A typical session is one hour in length and can include activities such as chores, grooming, arena work, and riding. Sessions are tailored to meet the specific capabilities/needs of each participant. For this reason, sessions are limited to one or two participants, 4 years old and up. A parent is required to be available to assist Nicole if physical needs of the participant require extra assistance, so please make sure you have someone to watch your other children (if applicable). They will not be able to wander the farm unsupervised. A consent form will need to be signed for any participants working with the horses.
Please indicate in the comment session the name(s), age(s), and gender(s) of the participant(s) registering for the session. Please choose which session best fits your schedule and we will send a confirmation email with more necessary details. Sessions take place outside, so please dress accordingly for the weather (ex. sunscreen, jacket, or warm boots/gloves/bibs), and long pants and closed toed shoes are required. Helmets are required to be worn by all participants when riding. Bien Aime has several riding-specific helmets available in select sizes. Equine Assisted Learning sessions are free.
**Please note: All Foster children are required to have written permission from their county worker before they can do any activities with the horses. Please bring this with you.
